Greetings from the US of A!
After weeks of travel and lots of "doings", we are
finally on American soil. Our heads are still spinning with the changes and one
of these days we might finally figure out which way is up! Here's a little
bit of our travelogue to this point:
- May 1-14 - Steady stream of
"going away" parties and goodbye visit
- Night of 14th, fourteen young men
show up to say goodbye to the twins. Last ones leave 2:30 AM...
- May 15 - We are
finally able to pack up and leave by 5:30 PM, our tiny economy car
pulling a heavily loaded baggage trailer.
- May 15-16 - We drive 1250
miles of rough roads to the Vianopolis School (central
Brazil) to attend graduation ceremonies
and take Richies things for his Senior year there.
- May 22 - Our family drives
the 550 miles to Dan and Beth Templeton's house (three hours by
car from Sao Paulo).
- May 26 - 2 PM, Dan loads us all
up in his large SUV and drives us to the Sao Paulo airport for our 10:15 PM
flight to the USA
- May 27 - 5 PM, after 27 hours of
plane and car rides, we finally arrive at the little town of Poquoson,
Virginia (right next to Langley AFB)
- May 27 - Darrel Templeton takes
Steve to his men's meeting to speak. Steve is a zombie, but he
speaks....something...:(
- May 28 - 6:20 AM - Darrel wakes
Steve & Sonia to speak at an ICM meeting. We are still zombies.
(Steve begins to plan vengence...) We also
speak with Dois Rosser, founder of ICM
- May 30 - Steve and Sonia
speak at a Wednesday night meeting (supper with
new friends)
- May 31 - Steve and Sonia speak at
a barbecue given by Darrel for his S.S. class (they took a special
offering to help us get to the US). Twins (with Cici) sing for the
group.
- June 1 - Steve and Sonia speak at a SS class, kids leave for visit to
family and friends in Virginia Beach and speak to teens
- June 2 - Supper with new friends!
(1st day of no speaking engagements!)
- June 3 - most of day spent
visiting friends and relatives in Virginia Beach, VA, Steve speaks again
at Darrel's "men's meeting"
- June 4 - Family speaks at Men's
Fellowship Breakfast in Hampton, VA. Twins sing.
- June 5 - We spend the
afternoon with Pastor Dick Woodward and his wife Jenny at Williamsburg, VA.
Twins sing for them.
- June 6 - Steve meets with
another pastor (and Darrel) for breakfast. We have a "southern-style"
supper with friends.
The rest of this week will be mostly speaking
engagements and visits, then we plan to head west. There are several new
possibilities for future plans for the twins, but nothing definite yet.
Everyone has been very helpful with their suggestions. Stay
tuned...
We plan to try to visit friends and relatives as we
travel and camp our way across the USA. We will probably head west using the
southern route now, then return to the East Coast by way of the northern route
in August. Richie will need to fly alone back to Brazil the beginning of August.
Keep praying!
Much love in Christ, Steve and Sonia
